Clover – Point of Sale

(1 customer review)

Update – November 2018

I contacted a Clover representative at the BLAST conference in November 2018. They’ve updated the operating system to use a more modern version of Android. This has solved some of the accessibility concerns on the previous version. It’s still a bit sluggish with TalkBack enabled and it includes the basic voice, which is rather robotic.

Clover is an Android-based Point of Sale solution that includes customized display terminals, receipt printers, and accessories for restaurants and other businesses. The platform also allows companies to track employee hours, inventory, and sales.

Clover works with Android’s TalkBack. The devices are custom-built by Clover to lock down security and control the platform features. This may affect the user’s ability to customize the accessibility experience.

The clover interface is a touch screen, but tactile keyboards and number pads can be connected.

Clover features a curated app market that allows you to extend functionality, for instance it can be integrated with QuickBooks Online.

Who actually reviewed this thing? Clover is awful for vision impaired individuals making purchases. All of their products are based on an Android touchscreen. If you cannot see the screen, you cannot make any transaction without help, and even worse, you cannot enter a debit PIN without giving it to other people.

Thank you for the feedback Sam. I met with a Clover representative recently and shared your concerns. They’ve updated the Clover operating system to a modern Android OS. It’s better, but I can’t verify if the PIN has been solved.
